7 June - More Installation

Day two of the installation progress... this was a big day, as the long hanging banners depicting San Carlos Water were being installed. These banners provide a backdrop behind the Sea Harrier on the plinth, which will give an extra wow-factor to anyone entering the hall from the top gallery. Combined with the big Falklands30 logo on the front of the plinth, this panorama (with the Harrier appearing to 'fly' into it) will really set the scene and draw people in.

Also being installed were some foamex boards, some of them inlaid into display cases. The next process is to deliver the remaining foamex panels, wedge stands for directional signage and the aluminium aircraft information boards...

Vinyl Wallpaper

There are five walls within the exhibition space which are going to be covered with a vinyl wallpaper, designed to comprise different photos about the Falklands Conflict. The walls will then host reminiscence and information boards. The five wall areas are: Personnel, Families, Fort Austin (featuring a special exhibit), Map and Falkland Islands (the largest of the walls). Like the Harrier Plinth (detailed below), the vinyl wallpapers are applied in stages. The largest wall is over 5m long, the smallest just under 2m. All of them are 2.4m high. Below are some pictures of the team applying the vinyl.

Installation Photos

Below are some photos showing the installation of graphics for the exhibitions. First, a fre progress shots of an 8.3m vinyl application to the front of a plinth displaying a Sea Harrier. The application consists of a huge version of the exhibition logo, which will be a striking visual introduction to the exhibition to anyone who approaches from the gallery to Hall 4.
